Intimate Conversation between ChoreographersBasmat Nossan and Uri Shafir

Nossan and Shafir will speak one-on-one for about an hour, uninterrupted, before opening the conversation to questions from the audience.

Two artists at the height of their careers will reflect on how concepts such as tradition, discipline, quality, and practice operate within their work. At the same time, they will contemplate the artist’s spirit and its drive toward mystery, challenge, and style. The intimate conversation may allow them to linger over their “unfinished business” with the body, dancers, and the independent dance field. This conversation about art may reveal the immense desire to create, inspire us, and uncover something of the secret of live performance.

In collaboration with the Batsheva Dance Company School.

Bosmat Nossan is a Tel Aviv based choreographer, dancer, and teacher. She was a dancer with the Batsheva Dance Company and the Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak Dance Company. During her years as a performer, she collaborated with a wide range of choreographers and artists in Israel and internationally, including creators from diverse artistic fields. Her choreographic work has been presented on leading platforms in Israel, including Curtain Up, International Exposure, and Diver Festival, as well as internationally in Europe and the United States. She has created commissioned works for Batsheva Ensemble, Inbal Dance Theatre, Verve, and the Live Gallery of the School of Visual Theatre in Jerusalem.
Nossan leads the Gaga Teacher Training Program and teaches in both professional and academic contexts. She has been a visiting artist at the University of Michigan and Wayne State University.
Her work has been supported by the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sport, Mifal HaPais, the America–Israel Cultural Foundation, and the Rabinovich Foundation.

Uri Shafir is an Israeli dancer, choreographer, and performance artist born in 1983. Since 2009, he has created independent works presented at prominent local platforms, including Curtain Up, Zirat Machol, International Exposure, Diver Festival, and Tel Aviv Dance, as well as various festivals worldwide. As a dancer, Uri performed with the Ensemble Batsheva Dance Company and collaborated with artists such as Yasmeen Godder, Niv Sheinfeld & Oren Laor, Dana Ruttenberg, Guy Gutman, among others. Uri is a graduate of MASPA (Kibbutz Ga'aton Dance Workshop), the Kelim Choreography Center, and the Master Exerce MA program in choreography at ICI-CCN in Montpellier, France (under artistic director Christian Rizzo). Alongside his artistic work, Uri is a lecturer at the Kibbutzim College, where he teaches movement research methods and research of choreographic practices. In addition, he is a certified Gaga teacher. Currently, he serves as a co-artistic director of "Pritza" - a dance and performance event in Jaffa. Uri’s work sits at the intersection of choreography and performance, often exploring the notion of "liveness" through both choreographed and improvised movement, while examining the dynamic relationships between the performer, the audience, and the performance event itself.
